Top Gas Union job up for grabs

Russian gas player Gazprom has proposed Alexey B. Miller, chairman of the management committee and vice-chairman of the Council of Directors of JSC Gazprom, while the Malaysian Gas Association has forwarded Datuk Abdul Rahim Hj. Hashim, president of the Malaysian Gas Association and vice president of Gas Business, Petronas.

The IGU presidency revolves in a three year period with the current presidency being held by the Netherlands with George H.B. Verberg as president.

The Dutch presidency will culminate next year with the 23rd World Gas Conference in Amsterdam on 5-9 June 2006.

From 2006 to 2009 the IGU will be presided by Argentina with Ernesto Anadón as the IGU president, with the 24th World Gas Conference taking place in Buenos Aires in 2009.

The decision on the position will be made by the IGU Council at its meeting in Tianjin City, Peoples Republic of China in October this year.

The World Gas Conferences, taking place every three years, are the biggest and most important and prestigious event of IGU, assembling more than 5000 top echelon leaders and specialists from the gas industry.

Next year's conference is in Amsterdam with the 25th World Gas Conference in 2012 being held in either Moscow or Kuala Lumpur.

International Gas Union (IGU) is a global non-commercial, non-political and non-governmental organisation founded in 1931 with the purpose of promoting the technical and economic progress of the gas industry. It now has 84 members from 67 countries all over the world.
