Santos has gas shows at offshore Java well

A SANTOS-led joint venture has found evidence of hydrocarbons at the Wortel-1 exploration well, located 7km west of the Oyong oil and gas field in the Sampang production sharing contract offshore Java in Indonesia.

This morning, junior partner Cue Energy Resources said the well was at a depth of 1247m.

The well penetrated the top Mundu limestone reservoir at 1242m, 56m low to prognosis, with gas and fluorescence indicated from mud logs. The hydrocarbon shows will require further evaluation before their significance, if any, can be determined, Cue said.

A wiper trip is currently being run. Following conditioning of the hole, Santos plans to run wireline logs and then will run and cement casing before drilling proceeds.

Participants in the Sampang PSC are Santos (operator with a 40.5% stake), Singapore Petroleum Sampang (36%), Cue (13.5%) and PT Petrogas Oyong Jatim (10%).
