The joint venture holds two petroleum exploration licences covering the proposed Hunter Bulga gas exploration project area, about 20km southwest of Singleton, near the townships of Broke and Bulga.
Exploration work is proposed to comprise drilling up to four core holes and 15 production test wells over 18 months to two years. Geological data will also be acquired from undertaking non-invasive geophysical exploration techniques.
Sydney Gas said the project was designed to provide an understanding of the coal geology of the area and assess the potential for future commercial production of coal seam gas.
Community consultation recently started with a meeting to brief Singleton Council representatives on the project. In the coming weeks, Sydney Gas said it will meet with local community and industry groups, landowners within the project area and other interested parties to get feedback on the proposal.
