The well is located in exploration permit VIC/P37(v) approximately 4 km from shore and 24 km west of the coastal township of Port Campbell.
Halladale-1 DW-1 has reached total depth of 1918 m (measured depth below the rotary table). The gas-bearing interval is in interbedded sands and shales of the Waarre Formation.
Halladale-1 DW-1 is the first well in a two-well program designed to target two prospects at the Late Cretaceous Waarre Formation level in VIC/P37(v) called Black Watch and Halladale.
The two gas exploration wells will use the same top hole section and be directionally steered toward their targets.
Halladale-1 DW-1 was targeting the southern prospect (Black Watch), while the second well, Halladale-1 DW-2, will target the northern prospect (Halladale).
“No comment will be made on the commercial significance of the discovery until both wells have been drilled and evaluated,” Origin said.
The two wells are being drilled using the Ocean Patriot semi submersible drilling rig, with drilling operations managed by Woodside Energy Ltd under an agreement with Origin Energy.
Participants are: Origin Energy Limited (operator) 37.5% and Woodside Energy Limited 62.5%.
Meanwhile, Woodside Energy reports that recently completed wireline logging of the Pluto-1 exploration well located in the outer Carnarvon Basin indicates a gross gas column of about 225 metres.
The well is now being prepared for production testing.
The ‘Atwood Eagle’ semi-submersible rig is drilling the well.
Woodside Energy Ltd. has a 100% interest in WA-350-P.
