Peninsula proves positive for Murphy

Murphy Oil will look to refocus its Malaysian exploration efforts following the success of the Kenarong-1 appraisal well in Block PM 311 off the coast of Peninsular Malaysia, which intersected a number oil and gas horizons. The well was drilled in 225 feet of water and reached a total measured depth of 10,453 feet.

In a statement Murphy Oil president and CEO Claiborne Deming said, “We are pleased with the results of our first exploration well offshore Peninsular Malaysia.

"The Kenarong discovery opens up a new play area for us [and] we plan to immediately move the Atwood Southern Cross to drill the nearby Pertang prospect to test a four-way dip closure for the equivalent section.”

Murphy is the operator of the block and has a 75% working interest. The balance is held by Malaysia’s Petronas Carigali.
