ONGC finds feedstock gas for Monarchak power plants

An official with India’s Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) has announced the discovery of gas reserves at a village in the Sonamura sub-division of West Tripura district.

According to ONGC director for exploration, Y.B. Sinha, “[The company] has discovered gas reserves at Khedabari village with a production capacity of over 200,000 cubic metres per day.”

“The discovery of gas is very important in view of the 280 mW power plants coming up in the area near Monarchak being established by North-East Electric Power Corp,” added Sinha.

Gas was encountered in three zones. Drilling was conducted up to a total depth of 2,550 metres.
