Located about 35km west of the Oyong field in 11m of water Mangga-1 was testing the Mundu Formation, which contains oil and gas in the Oyong oil and gas discovery, within a four way dip closure, about 110m updip of gas shows in the Anggur -3 well.
The well encountered a 12m gas zone in good quality reservoir rock at the top of the Mundu Formation objective although initial attempts to obtain pressure information and potential wire line samples was unsuccessful due to the tool sticking.
After reaching a depth of 1,633m unsuccessful attempts were made to evaluate several hydrocarbon shows beneath the top Mundu gas column before Elpaso elected to conduct further evaluation of the well on a sole risk basis. Cue and Santos declined to join the sole risk.
Pressure data and samples confirmed the top Mundu gas zone and the well was deepened to 1633m. A production test of the zone from 1,560m to 1633m recovered 33 degree API oil at a small, non-commercial rate.
The well was estimated to contain a potential 110 billion cubic feet of recoverable gas (P50 case) up to a high side case of approximately 320 billion cubic feet of recoverable gas.
