Thailand’s demand for power is increasing rapidly as the country makes great strides in the development of major production industries in the fields of metalworking, textile, paper and rubber.
Commissioned by public utility company EGAT, the turnkey contract was signed yesterday in Bangkok.

The Songkhla power plant, located in the Chana district in southern Thailand, is scheduled to come on line in early 2008. The 750MW plant will be fired by natural gas supplied from off-shore gas fields developed jointly by Thailand and Malaysia.
The demand for electricity In Thailand is expected to increase by an average of about 2,200MW per year between 2007 and 2015.
The Songkhla plant is the second big power plant project that Siemens has been awarded by EGAT, following the 750MW combined cycle power plant in Bang Pakong.
