Site works for the substation and cabling works project, which involves the construction of a new substation, commissioning of two new transformers and new underground electricity cables in the distribution area, began last December.

Ipswich-based company TP Turner is the construction contractor.

The excavation works are well underway and the cable work is expected to be finished at the end of October.

The Varsity Lakes project is part of an $A85 million program to upgrade Energex’s infrastructure in the region. It will provide greater network capacity to residential and commercial customers in Varsity Lakes, Robina, Miami, Burleigh Heads and the Bond University area.

According to latest Energex figures, more than 3000 customers per month joined Energex’s network in 2004.
