United Group subsidiary, United KG, has been appointed as the turnkey contractor for the project, and will be responsible for overall project management, design, procurement, installation, commissioning and supply of all major equipment for the upgrades.
Procurement and supply includes transformers, circuit breakers, surge diverters, disconnectors, protection and control equipment and communications for all five substations. The contract is expected to be complete by November 2002.
"Over the past three years, we have completed four alliance type projects with ElectraNet SA in South Australia, constructing new substations and transmission lines," said United Group managing director and CEO, Mr Richard Leupen.
He added during the past decade United Group had completed 20 major substations, 2,100 kilometres of transmission lines, eight gas turbine installations, two major diesel and two hydro power stations and 40 kilometres of submarine and underground cable projects in Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia. United shares closed at $2.44, up 4c at the time of writing.
