Conditions are similar to those, which preceded the 2001 winter power crisis - lower than average inflows to hydro lake levels and lake levels generally.
"Everyone, including the Commerce Commission, needs to forget about the those draft proposals to govern lines companies, at least for this year. Let's concentrate on ensuring security of supplies this winter," ENA chief executive Alan Jenkins told EnergyReview.Net on Monday.
"Maui cannot help us again, primarily because production has plateaued and because of increasing water drive in the reservoirs," Jenkins said, referring to the ability of the Maui partners to ramp up production, to about 124% of the average, during the critical three winter months of 2001.
The commission last week held a five-day conference on legislation it proposes to introduce from next month to limit lines companies' profits, reducing them from between 1-5% per annum for each of the next five years.
