Sunshine said it expects to spud Polaris 2 core hole early next week and would drill up to 12 core holes and pilot wells over a three-month period in its initial drilling campaign in the prospect.
According to the company, Polaris lies in the highly productive Walloon Coal Measures fairway and about 300 square kilometres of the area contains coal at suitable depths for CSM extraction.
The initial drilling program has been designed to rapidly confirm net coal, gas content, permeability and productivity of both the Juandah and Taroom coal seams that make up the Walloon Coal Measures, the company said.
Following initial drilling, Sunshine will rapidly implement a production testing program to identify commercial reserves in the permit.
Sunshine owns 100% of ATP 768P.
