Partner Australian Worldwide Exploration said gas shows over the interval 1865-1942m were evaluated by logs and pressure testing, and proved to be residual.

Pecten East-1 is the first of three wells to be drilled in a development that will tie the Henry gas field to Casino project in the offshore Otway Basin.

According to AWE, the well targeted two separate objectives and was drilled by the Ocean Patriot in a down dip position on the Waarre A sand.

The Waarre A sand is the reservoir at the nearby Henry gas field and the objective at Netherby-1 exploration well.

Drilling of Netherby-1 and the third well, Henry-2, is expected to begin immediately following the completion of Pecten East-1.

First gas production from the combined Casino and Henry development is targeted for the first half of 2009.

The VIC/P44 joint venture comprises Santos as operator with 50%, AWE25% and Mitsui E&P Australia 25%.
