Empire starts back-to-back WA drilling

The company plans to drill ahead to about 100m before running casing and then continue drilling to total depth of 450m.

Star Finch-1 has an estimated potential recoverable reserves of 50 billion cubic feet of gas and 25 million barrels of oil, and is targeting the Birdrong Sandstone.

About 15m of the Birdrong Sandstone was intersected in the nearby Bibbawarra Bore.

According to Empire, the prospect also demonstrates bright seismic anomalies that have indicated natural gas entrapment in the Carnarvon Basin.

The Drilling Contractors of Australia Rig 7 is drilling Star Finch-1 and, once complete, will drill the Lake MacLeod-1 in EP 461/EP 439.

Empire said it would drill Star Finch-2 appraisal well in the event of a discovery at Star Finch-1.

Empire Oil and Gas is operator of the three permits while United Kingdom private company Jurassica Oil & Gas, Longreach Oil and DVM International are partners.
