The coal seam methane well has a planned total depth of 900m with coals expected between 500-900m.
ATR-1 is the first of 13 wells to be drilled on the Tatapani-Ramkola block, which has an estimated gas resource of 1900 billion cubic feet.
The well is about 90km south of the city of Ambikapur in the northern part of the State of Chhattisgarh.
Arrow (operator) and Gail (India) each have a 35% interest in the block, while The Tata Power Company and EIG Energy Infrastructure Group AB have 15% respectively.
