Oil Search to spud Arakubi sidetrack

OIL Search is getting set to drill a sidetrack of the Arakubi-1A well in PNG to test a separate structure or possible extension of a known productive block in the Usano complex.

The company has completed final wireline logging over the original well and was plugged back to a depth of 1600m where the sidetrack will begin.

Logging data obtained while drilling the Arakubi-1A well indicated low resistivity in the primary target Toro sandstone, as well as secondary targets in the Hedinia and Iagifu sands suggesting they are water-bearing.

Arakubi-1A is in PDL 2 about 5km east of the Kutubu oil field.

Participants in Arakubi-1A are Oil Search 60%, ExxonMobil 14.5%, AGL 11.9%, Merlin Petroleum 6.8% and Petroleum Resources (Kutubu) 6.8%.
