Adelaide resumes Otway drilling

ADELAIDE Energy has freed the drilling equipment stuck in its Jacaranda Ridge-2 oil appraisal well, in onshore Otway Basin permit PEL 255, and as of yesterday said it was drilling towards the secondary target sandstone.

The company retrieved the completion packer and found the testing string was clean and free of sand, indicating a valid but commercially unsuccessful test on the primary target Top Sawpit Sandstone member.

Drilling is continuing to a total depth of 2760 metres to assess Intra Sawpit Sandstone member, which tested at 405 barrels of oil per day in the original discovery well.

Once Jacaranda Ridge-2 reaches total depth, Adelaide Energy plans to electrically log the well after which a 4.5-inch liner will be run and cemented.

The well marks the first onshore oil search in eight years in the South Australian part of the Otway Basin.
