Thai oil well drilled almost halfway: Carnavon

PERTH-based Carnarvon Petroleum reported good progress on its POE-2 development well in the Wichian Buri oil field, onshore Thailand.

Thai oil well drilled almost halfway: Carnavon

Carnarvon yesterday said the well had reached a depth of 510.5m and that 7-inch casing had been run and cemented in place.

The target depth is 1310m, with the primary objective being the F sandstones that form the current producing reservoir at Wichian Buri. However, the well will be deepened to ensure other potential reservoirs, including the G sandstones, are also intersected.

“The hole is in good condition and the drilling is proceeding as planned,” Carnarvon said.

The POE-2 well is located in the northern part of the Wichian Buri field, only 240m northeast of the N-2 production well – one of the best producing wells in this northern part of the field.

The Wichian Buri field is located within the Petchabun Basin.

Permit holders are operator Pan Orient (60%) and Carnarvon (40%).
