Worrior-4 – the fourth well in the Worrior oil field – will target the McKinlay and Birkhead oil reservoirs. The well will also appraise the Patchawarra gas and the fractured basement oil play in the Pando Formation that tested oil in Worrior-3.
Worrior-4, to be drilled 300m north-east of Worrior-1, is expected to take between seven and nine days to reach a total depth of 1810m.
If successful, the well will increase reserves and sustain production at the Worrior field, Cooper said. It is targeting a potential 7.7 million barrels of in-place oil.
Worrior-3 was completed last October as a future oil producer from the McKinlay and Birkhead formations.
Partners in the Worrior oil field are Stuart Petroleum, which is the operator with a 70% stake and Cooper Energy (30%).
