Nabrajah-5 step-out finds field's limits

OIL Search’s Nabrajah appraisal campaign in Yemen seems to have delineated the southern extent of the field, with the Nabrajah-5 step-out well showing vastly different characteristics than the previous discovery wells.

Preliminary interpretation of wireline logs so far indicated the Qishn S1 and S2 sandstones were approximately 80 metres low to prognosis and water-bearing, according to the company.

“The shallower Qishn S1 Sandstones, which encountered gas and oil shows when drilled, are interpreted to contain non-moveable oil in poor quality reservoir sands. The Qishn S2 Sandstones are water bearing,” it said in a statement yesterday.

“It appears that Nabrajah-5 is located in a separate, down-faulted block to the south of the main Nabrajah field.”

The forward plan on completion of logging is to resume drilling to the basement to further evaluate the gas column encountered in Nabrajah-2 and to explore for possible down dip oil leg. The revised total depth for the well is 2,650 metres.

Oil Search has a 28.33% interest.
