The PEP 38738 partners should have reached the 1900m target depth, within the Miocene-aged Mt Messenger sands, at the weekend and Austral has reported that the shallower and secondary Urenui pay interval (at around 1400m) had good indications of oil pay.
Electric logging is anticipated early this week after the Mt Messenger sands - which flowed in excess of 300 bopd at the Cheal-A3X well - have been intersected. Flow-testing is scheduled to start for both Cheal-A3X and A4 around November 7.
As reported by EnergyReview.Net last week, flow rates are below expectation at the nearby Kahili gas-condensate field. Austral says only 0.5-1 million cubic feet per day of gas is being produced and that perhaps condensate buildup in the reservoir might be restricting the flow.
Options to enhance flow are under review, including fraccing, running a velocity string in Kahili-1A/B and a Kahili-2 well that might intersect the pay sands up to 70m higher on the trap than Kahili-1A/B.
