DRILLING

More discoveries from the Con Son Basin

A PetroVietnam-Petronas 50-50 JV, Lam Son Joint Operating Co, has discovered oil and gas reserves...

In a statement PetroVietnam said, “[The] Lam Son Joint Operating Co, which started drilling in May, has completed its first exploratory well with very positive results. We drilled a well with a 2,817-metre depth and discovered oil and gas reserves at a depth of between 1,800 and 2,800 metres.”

“Right now, we can’t provide any estimates of the reserves, but certainly it’s showing significant potential. [However], more work needed to be done before the joint venture can give further details.”

Currently, Lam Son has E&P contracts for two offshore blocks in the Con Son Basin, Block 02/97 and Block 01/97. Both blocks combined equal an area of around 11,800 sq km.
