Despite the setback the MD of consortium partner Oil and Gas Development Corp (OGDC), Najam K. Hyder, has not given up the ghost on the well.
In a statement Najam said, “One should not call the drilling results disappointing. In offshore drilling you hit oil in one or two wells out of 10. But there were some encouraging signs. The results were not totally negative.”
“The well has been technically plugged and abandoned [but] we are going ahead with the technical meeting in July in France to review the result and plan the way forward,” added Najam.
It is believed the well is located in either offshore Blocks G or H, 180 km south-east of Karachi, but the report did not specify where exactly, nor was the well identified. The members of the consortium are France’s Total, Malaysia’s Petronas, Austria’s OMV AG, and Pakistan’s OGDC and Mari Gas Co.
