The discovery is the company’s second successful one in the Thall Block following the 1 trillion cubic feet discovered at the Manzali well, 86 km away.
The Thall Block is made up of the Kohat, Karak and Hangu districts plus adjoining tribal areas.
Sources cited by the reports said, “After successful results were obtained at Manzali well, MOL conducted investigations and carried out seismic surveys of the entire Thall Block including Banda Daud Shah, selecting drilling points at Kaori and Halala to explore oil and gas in the area.”
“A German drilling company, Deutag, started its drilling under the supervision of MOL, at Makori in Banda Daud Shah Tehsil in March [and] the huge quantity of natural gas [was] discovered during drilling up to 2,600 metres. [MOL] will continue its drilling to the required dept of 4,300 metres,” added the report, which did not divulge the quantity of the find.
