Lalmai has gas potential, results still not confirmed

Tullow Bangladesh Ltd has announced its Lalami-3 exploration well in the Block 9 JV, Bangladesh, has reached its total depth of 2,800 metres and wireline logs indicate potential gas-bearing sands in a variety of zones between 2,200 metres and 2,800 metres.

However, according to Tullow, a completed logging program was not possible due to “hole conditions”.

In a statement Tullow said, “Subject to co-venturer approval, Tullow will shortly begin testing these potential gas zones, including production testing without a rig. This will allow the rig to be moved to Bangora, the third well in Tullow's three well exploration program for Block 9. Production test results for Lalmai-3 are expected in three to four weeks time.”

According to Tullow’s General Manager (International), Brian O’Cathain, “While these results are encouraging, due to the difficulties encountered during the logging program, we have not yet demonstrated the presence of commercial gas at this location. This will only be confirmed by a positive result from the planned production test.”

Tullow is the operator and holds a 30% interest in the Block. The other partners are Niko Resources unit Niko Exploration (Block 9) Ltd (60%) and Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Ltd (10%).
