CNOOC announces Bohai Bay success

According to the numbers provided by CNOOC, BZ34-1-5 flowed nearly 400 barrels of 31-33 API degree oil per day during drill stem test one. It also produced around 5.37 million cubic feet of gas per day on a 9.53mm choke during drill stem test two.

BZ34-1-5 is located on the BZ-34-1 discovery in water depths of 21 metres. Details on the other appraisal well in the discovery – BZ34-1-4 – were not as detailed but CNOOC did confirm that it had encountered gas pay zones of 16 metres and oil zones of 38 metres.

According to CNOOC’s senior vice president, Zhang Guohua, the discovery bodes well for the company’s plans for the area. “It’s a good start for this year’s Bohai Bay exploration program,” said Zhang.
