DRILLING

Redback rests as problems arise

Origin Energy and ARC Energy's latest Perth Basin well, the Redback-1 gas exploration well in Production Licence L11, has been set back by drilling difficulties and will suspend further work by up to four days, less than 200 metres before the target zone.

Redback rests as problems arise

Currently workers are circulating to condition mud at 3667 metres drill depth while waiting for arrival at the wellsite of replacement drill pipe. The replacement of drill pipe by the drilling contractor, Century Drilling, has become necessary due to a number of recent failures in the integrity of the drill string.

It is expected that drilling will resume in three to four days and the primary objective will be intersected within 48 hours of the resumption of drilling.

The proposed total depth for the well is 3810 metres.

Interests in L11 and Redback 1 are Origin Energy Developments 67% and ARC Energy Limited 33%.
