The Montgomery well in the Carnarvon Basin has encountered sniffs of hydrocarbons as it approaches the target zones.
The well is targetting multiple reservoirs in the Cretaceous and Jurassic sequences.
A statement by minor partner Pan Pacific Petroleum said reservoirs in a secondary target, the Upper Barrow, had been intersected withj corresponding gas and oil shows.
PanPac said the primary targets in the Dupuy formation were expected to be intersected within the week
Partners are Pan Pacific (10%), Santos (18.711%), Apache Energy (48.815%), Tap Oil (22.474%) and Pelsart Resources (1%).
