Islamic holiday, bad weather halts Amity's Turkish well

In order to allow the Turkish crews time off to observe a national religious holiday this week, completion operations on the Gocerler-5 well have been suspended until 17 February, according to the well's operator, Perth-based Amity Oil.

Amity Oil said prior to the Islamic holiday and the bad weather that halted operations last Friday, production casing had been run and cemented in two stages with wellhead and safety equipment attached.

Completion operations started on Gocerler-5 last week after interpretation of wireline logs indicated the presence of two zones of gas pay within the primary Danismen formation objective. These zones correlated closely with zones in the Gocerler-4 well completed last week.

The Gocerler Gasfield is 50% owned and operated by Amity Oil with the other 50% interest belonging to Turkiye Petrolleri AO (50%).
