The wildcat well, Hudson-1, is being drilled on the same trend as the venture's recent Cuisinier-1 discovery, Bow managing director Ron Prefontaine told the conference.
The first well discovered 6m of potential oil pay within a new zone for the area, the Murta Sandstone.
The Cuisinier oil trend is higher than any other field in the area, including the Santos-operated Cook oil field, he said.
Hudson is being drilled on the same high trend about 20km southwest of Cuisinier and only 6km west of Cook. It has a planned total depth of 2434m.
The JV, comprising Santos, Bow, Victoria Petroleum and Canada's Avery Resources, is drilling the Barta and Wompi blocks in the ATP-752P permit.
The partners are planning a seven-well program to jointly explore and develop these blocks, which are adjacent to acreage being explored and developed under Santos' accelerated drilling scheme, the Cooper Oil Program.
