The delegation includes representatives from government, leading industrial companies and Japanese research institutes.
The delegation participated in a joint climate change and clean coal information session on Monday, followed by a visit to the Queensland Centre for Advanced Technologies and the Centre for Low Emissions Technologies in Brisbane.
Later this week the delegation will also inspect two Queensland projects: the ZeroGen project west of Rockhampton and the CS Energy project at Biloela.
"Japan is a major trading partner of Australia, particularly in relation to our high-quality coal, and both nations realise clean coal technology is vital to securing a sustainable energy future," said Mines and Energy Minister Geoff Wilson.
