However, according to a report in the West Australian, the company now wants a 6.8 square kilometre area excluded from the proposal to create a gas precinct, including the planned site for Pluto.

A spokesperson told the newspaper that Woodside changed its position after being influenced by public opinion and planned changes to heritage laws.

The Western Australian Government is expected to announce its position on the issue in the next day or so.
