The Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association says interest in its 2006 environment conference Environmental Excellence: A Platform for Prosperity has been high since registrations opened this month.

"APPEA prides itself on the programs it puts in place for all its events but this year's environment conference is set to be our best yet," APPEA chief executive Belinda Robinson said yesterday.

She said the APPEA environment conference brings together representatives from the oil and gas industry, government bodies and non-government organisations, with speakers drawn from industry professionals, government decision makers and key environmental organisations.

"It is a unique opportunity for companies, organisations and individuals to network with others in the industry, and to hear about the latest developments and opportunities in environmental management in Australia," she said.

The conference will feature industry case studies and innovations, perspectives from key environmental organisations, as well as updates from governments and the research community.

"Participants will also be guided through the maze of approvals and regulations by those who know the way," Robinson said.

Keynote speakers include Australian Conservation Foundation president Professor Ian Lowe and WWF-Australia conservation director Dr Ray Nias.

Representatives from BHP Billiton Petroleum, Woodside, Santos, ExxonMobil, BP Australia, Origin Energy, Apache Energy, ROC Oil, Oil Search, Strike Oil and APPEA are also included among various session speakers.

The conference will be held at the Hyatt Regency Coolum on Queensland's Sunshine Coast from November 19-21.
