The laws do not cover “special institutions” such as the army and state “strategic storage facilities”. Those caught violating the law could face fines of between US$600 and US$3,600.
The China Daily newspaper, citing an anonymous senior official from the Liaoning Development and Reform Committee, reported, “Ethanol fuel can play an important role in easing consumption of traditional petrol and protecting the environment.”
Aside from Liaoning, the provinces of Jilin, Heilongjiang, Henan and Anhui and certain cities in the Hubei, Shandong, Hebei and Jiangsu provinces have already switched to the alternative fuel. It is believed the Chinese government is keen for ethanol fuel to be used nationwide in place of fossil fuel.
