China's target is for hybrid vehicles of this type to be exclusively used in certain areas and provinces in order to cut down on the use of gasoline and their environmentally unfriendly carbon emissions.
According to the SDRC, these hybrids will be put through their paces in the provinces of Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Henan, and Anhui and partially in the provinces of Hubei, Hebei, Shandong, and Jiangsu. Areas that the central government hopes to see the non-gasoline vehicles being exclusively used.
The government's State Council has also approved three companies to produce the fuel. One of those companies, Jilin Fuel Ethanol Co Ltd has already successfully operated a 300,000 ton fuel ethanol production line since November 2003.
