Total may develop Mahakam gas fields

BP Migas Deputy Planning, Zanial Achmad, has revealed his government will approve a plan by Total...

This announcement comes on the back of a Total statement in which the European giant said it wanted to invest an additional US$1 billion in Mahakam on top of the US$1.1 billion it spent there last year.

In a statement Zanial said, “Total is committed to putting more investment in Indonesia to develop the fields. We’re going to approve the development proposal.”

“Total’s Sisi and Nubi offshore fields are in the Mahakam area in East Kalimantan province,” added the official.

Total is operating the Mahakam area under a PSC which will expire in 2017. Currently, Total produces 2.5 billion cubic feet per day of gas from the Tunu and Peciko fields in the PSC.

Total is the largest supplier of LNG to Bontang and it is understood the Indonesian government is keen for more natural gas to be supplied to Bontang.
