Dadri chosen for $2.2 billion power plant

According to Reliance Industries Ltd's vice-chairman & MD, Anil Ambani, "The ultimate objective of selecting the site was to ensure the least cost of delivered power to millions of consumers by optimisation of site development expenses, proximity to gas and water sources and well-developed infrastructural facilities. [Dadri] is 40 km from Delhi, is also well-connected for easy transportation of equipment and is close to the project's water source, the main Ganga Canal."

"Moreover, GAIL's Hazira-Bijaipur-Jagdishpur pipeline is 15 km from the site, which will help in natural gas transportation," added Ambani. The gas for the project is to be sourced from the firm's Dhirubhai gas fields in Andhra Pradesh, which has proven gas reserves of around 60 million tons.
