BPCL plans 700km pipeline

India’s Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL) is planning to invest around US$143.3 million to lay a 16-inch 686 km pipeline from Mangalia (in Madhya Pradesh) to Piyala (in Haryana) with a tap-off point at Mathura.

The project is being seen as an extension of the Mumbai-Manmad-Indore pipeline. The company is already increasing the refining capacity of its Mumbai refinery to 12 million metric tonnes and is setting up a refinery in Bina to make use of the new pipeline.

Another reason behind the proposal is to cut down the company’s dependence on rail transport or Indian Oil Corp’s own product pipeline.
