New chief for CNOOC

There is a changing of the guard at China's CNOOC Ltd. As of 16 October 2003, Fu Chengyu has been appointed Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the company and replaces Wei Liucheng who has resigned. Coincidentally, Fu was also recently made president of China National Offshore Oil Corporation, CNOOC Ltd's parent company.

New chief for CNOOC

Fu is a CNOOC board member and had served previously with CNOOC Ltd as its chief operating officer and president. The man who holds a Master's degree in petroleum engineering from University of Southern California has had 28-years of experience in the industry - with both local and foreign companies.

The current president of CNOOC Ltd, Zhou Shouwei, believes that Fu's experience would be an asset to the company. According to Zhou, "Mr. Fu is a familiar face to shareholders and the market. I am confident that the company will further grow and develop under his leadership."

The new man at the helm is said to be "I am excited about this appointment and the challenges and opportunities associated with it." According to Fu, "I will work closely with the board, management team and staff, with a view to bringing the company to a new platform."
