Blowout causes barge evacuation

18 crew members were safely evacuated after a blowout on Thursday on board a Parker Drilling barge working in the in the inland waters of Terrebonne Parish, approximately 14.5 miles south of Amelia, Louisiana while working for Apache Corporation.

Parker said there were no injuries caused by the 'well control incident' and crews were working to bring the fire under control. It said although no damage assessment to the rig has been made at this time, it believed substantially all of the loss will be covered by insurance. At the present time it said there is no indication that any fuel or oil on board poses any pollution threat to the coast.

Investigations are continuing into the incident which occurred during completion operations.
