There are three categories in the awards – production companies, exploration companies and drilling firms.

Esso and Apache respectively won the safety and environment awards in the production company category while Kerr McGee North West Shelf and Tap Oil won the safety and envoironmental awards in the exploration company category.

In the drilling company category, Parker Drilling PNG won the onshore category with Diamond Offshore General taking out the offshore category.

In presenting the awards, APPEA Chairman Malcolm Garrett said only one goal was acceptable for the industry – zero incidents.
