Shell goes hi-tech with e-marketplace

International petroleum giant Royal Dutch/Shell has taken another step towards joining the online community by entering Quadrem's global e-marketplace following the successful pilot of Quadrem production solutions at Shell customer sites in Chile, South Africa and the United States.

As a supplier of hydrocarbon products and services to the mining industry Shell said it made the decision to join the Quadrem e-marketplace in response to an increased demand from existing customers to do e-business.

"E-business is a strategically important selling channel for Shell, and one which we realise we must embrace if we are to continue growing our customer relationships. Many of our mining customers have already started to transact online, using e-business tools to put work out to tender, find the best supplier and manage those relationships - so joining Quadrem seemed the ideal way to further develop our existing e-business profile," said Marion Wagner, mining e-commerce specialist.
