Can-do approach pays off

CAN Group has secured two major contract renewals for its asset integrity business.

Can-do approach pays off

The two contracts are worth about £200 ($A362) million and, with an increase in business, will help safeguard 150 jobs.

CAN has been awarded a five-year contract to provide asset integrity services to ConocoPhillips. It also won a three-year contract to provide topsides inspection and integrity support services with Apache in the North Sea.

Both contracts have options to extend for up to four years.

CAN has held a contract with ConocoPhillips for a full range of non-destructive testing and inspection services since 1995.

This renewal, however, adds to the scope of works CAN will do. It extends the work to a full suite of integrity engineering support services such as asset integrity technical services, including structural, corrosion and inspection engineering.

The integrity engineering support services will be delivered by CAN's integrity engineering business ENGTEQ.

CAN and ENGTEQ have been providing integrity support to Apache's North Sea assets since 2007.

Under the Apache contract renewal, they will continue to provide inspection and integrity engineering services including non-destructive testing, advanced inspection and innovation solutions, and corrosion, structural and inspection engineering services to support the integrity management of topsides pressure systems and structures.

CAN Group director Innes Walker said the contract wins underlined the company's role as a major player in asset integrity management.

"We expect to grow rapidly in the next five years by maintaining existing contracts and securing new business in the North Sea where demand for our proven expertise and unrivalled experience is rising," he said.

"This is due to greater emphasis being placed on the integrity of ageing assets and infrastructure."
