The five-year call-off contract, which has an optional one-year extension, is worth up to £158 million ($A283 million) and covers the Mina Al Ahmadi, Mina Abdullah and Shuaib oil refineries.

AMEC will be responsible for a range of engineering and management services.

These include feasibility studies, front-end engineering design, project management consultancy services and the training of Kuwaiti engineers.

The contract also involves providing studies and FEED to KNPC's local marketing and projects department on a call-off basis for its in-country petroleum storage and transportation facilities.

AMEC had held a similar previous contract at the refineries since 2007.
