ConocoPhillips and Santos are partners in Darwin LNG and in the NT/P61 and NT/P69 permits, which contain their Caldita and Barossa gas fields.
They finished acquiring the seismic data this week but it could take up to 18 months to process, ConocoPhillips Australia president Joseph Marushack told the South-East Asia Australia Offshore Conference in Darwin yesterday.
It was also possible that Sunrise could feed a second LNG train, but many questions about this still had to be resolved, according to Marushack.
“We have to look at all the options – an onshore Timor plant, a floating plant, an onshore Darwin plant,” he said.
“But obviously, ConocoPhillips would like to build a second plant in Darwin.”
East Timor is preparing to make its own proposal for an onshore Timor LNG plant.
Currently, the Darwin LNG facility produces 3.4 million tonnes of LNG per annum, but has approval for up to 10MMtpa.
