All clear for Habanero hot rocks plant

GEODYNAMICS expects to have a 1MW pilot power plant online by the end of this year, following a successful open-hole flow test between its Habanero-1 and Habanero-3 wells.

The two wells are sustaining circulation production of 20kg of 212C water per second at a flowing pressure of 4000psi through a 14mm fixed choke.

The company said it was pleased with the results, which were in line with expectations and allowed the company to proceed with the proposed 1MW pilot power station, due for commissioning at the end of 2008.

Following the open flow test, Geodynamics intends to fully open the existing choke facilities to determine the maximum flow rate without circulation.

Due to begin in mid-May, the closed loop test will run for about six weeks in a bid to run chemical tracers to determine the contact fracture surface area.

"This will allow the company to determine the temperature drawdown during operations over a number of years," Geodynamics said.
