Alinta acquired the 91MW wind farm as part of last October’s merger of its infrastructure assets with those belonging to AGL Energy.
Then last month, the Perth-based company recommended a $7.4 billion takeover offer from a Babcock & Brown and Singapore Power consortium.
In a statement on Monday, Babcock & Brown Wind Partners said the deal gave it the right to acquire the wind farm.
“As the contractual structure would have provided us with limited opportunities to add further value, BBW decided it was in the best interests of its security holders to exercise its option to instruct [Alinta] to sell Wattle Point,” it said.
Located on SA’s Southern Yorke Peninsula, the wind farm comprises 55 wind turbines over 17.5 square kilometres.
These turbines have a total capacity of 91MW, or enough renewable energy to power 55,000 homes and offset more than 360,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions.
Its new owner is Energy Infrastructure Trust (EIT) – managed by ANZIS – which acquires or develops energy-related utility and infrastructure assets in Australia and New Zealand.
