AUSTRALIAN-listed Babcock & Brown Wind Partners has agreed to buy a 10-megawatt windfarm in western Germany for $30 million.

BBW buys German wind farm

Increasing BBW's number of operational wind farms to 22, the Kaarst wind farm is expected to generate 19,342 megawatt-hours of net energy per year.

The wind farm, currently owned by German developer Plambeck Neue Energien AG, comprises five Vestas V80-2MW wind turbines. A further 2MW to be added this year will bring the total installed capacity to 12MW and expected net energy production to 22,990MWh.

BBW expects the impact on the company's net operating cash flow in the 2006-07 financial year to be neutral given the timing and relative size of the wind farm.

Vestas will continue to operate and maintain the wind farm for another two years.
