When the project was first announced in May 2005, Meridian said the wind farm would produce enough electricity to supply about 30,000 average households – or nearly every household in the Southland District and Invercargill City area.
The White Hill wind farm has already been awarded 710,000 internationally tradable carbon emissions units under the Government's Projects to Reduce Emissions program, which if sold at $NZ15 each would be worth $NZ10.65 million.
Vestas said the order was a milestone in its relationship with Meridian, with a scope that included the supply, installation and commissioning of 29 V80-2.0MW wind turbines, a remote control system and a five-year service and maintenance agreement.
Meridian had previously chosen Vestas as the wind turbine supplier for the Te Apiti wind project, which included the supply of 55 units of V72-1.650kW turbines.
