The proposed site at Spring Hill is near the Canberra suburb of Hall, where residents have formed a community group to oppose the project and are considering legal action.
AGL recently acquired Southern Hydro – including its wind energy assets, technology and expertise – in order to enhance its own renewable energy portfolio and expertise.
The proposed Spring Hill Wind Farm is one of the projects that ActewAGL nominated as a preferred option over purchasing wind energy from RES Southern Cross' proposed wind farm in Taralga, which had hoped to supply wind energy in the region.
ActewAGL is currently undertaking feasibility studies in the area, monitoring wind conditions at Spring Hill with the intention of building a 10-15 turbine wind farm.
ActewAGL is also involved in another wind farm consortium with Collex and EHN Oceania for the 50 megawatt Woodlawn Wind Farm, which has already received planning approval.
